Michael F. Malone Dr. Michael Malone is Professor of Chemical Engineering and Vice-Chancellor for Research and Engagement at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He was educated at Penn State University (BS) and at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (PhD). He joined the faculty at UMass 1980 and was director of the Process Design and Control Center from 1989 to 1997, and from 2003 to the present. His research interests are in the design of processes for the production of chemicals and polymers and in batch processing. He is the author of numerous technical articles, and the textbook Conceptual Design of Distillation Systems (McGraw Hill, 2001) with M.F. Doherty. He is currently on the board of directors for the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance.
